Leather Care

A stack of leather bookmarks.Leather is a robust material which can last for years with proper care.

Patina - Making Leather Darker
All of the veggie tan items that aren't painted can actually get darker with time. This is called the patina process and if you would like your leather richer looking simply leave it in the sun light and you'll see it darken naturally. For painted leather or bridle leather you will not see a patina.

When Leather Gets Wet
Leather can get wet which is actually what artists do when they want to mold or shape it. If your bookmark or mouse pad gets wet simply dab off excess liquid and let it dry flat.

Pencil Markings or Other Small Marks
Many small markings that may happen to your bookmark might be removable if you gently use a pencil eraser. Test the eraser on paper first to make sure it doesn't have any dyes in the plastic that might discolor the leather and doesn't leave oil smears. Most standard school pencils generally work well.

Sealing Your Leather
Some items come with a clear sealant on it such as the mouse pads. The clear sealant provides protection to the leather and if you would like you can apply it any of the leather crafts if it is designed to be flexible. Please do not use clear sealants that yellow or that peel/crack. If the material is designed for leather you should be good just test it on a small area of the leather before you apply it to the entire piece.

Caring For Wood

When it comes to crafting supplies and loom kits we use wood. Here are some simple help topics on how to care for your wood products.2 wooden skull keychains.

When It Gets Wet
Let it sit out to dry after wiping off excess liquids. Lay it flat to dry on a towel and occasionally switch out the towel. Wood gets soft and can swell when wet so make sure it is completely dry before resuming use.

Splinters
All the items are sanded before being shipping but if for some reason you should end up with the wood splinting be sure to sand it done before resuming use. You don't want splinters.

Paints and Sealants
Unless the item says it is sealed or painted it comes ready to be painted or stained. I highly suggest you use a spray paint or finish that is designed for wood in a well ventilated area and make sure it is 100% dry before applying another coat.
